Mad Dogs and Englishmen is currently the first and only ski-joring tour company in Kananaskis Country, Alberta.
Ski-Joring is a hybrid sport that is still relatively new in the public eye. Combining dog sledding with skiing, ski-joring originated in Scandinavia and has gained popularity in racing circuits, as well as, recreational circuits around the world. It was introduced as a demonstration sport at the 'Lake Placid Winter Olympics'. Mad Dogs and Englishmen is a ski-jör racing kennel training a number of dogs for competitive racing. As the sport is growing in popularity, so to does the racing circuit with the addition of a ski-joring class being added to a number of pre-existing dog sled race venues.
Today, recreational ski-joring is becoming more and more popular and is ideally suited to the long Alberta winters. Your family K-9 companion can be quite easily accommodated, all you need is a little know how.

Ski Jör Clinics
Split into 3 main sections; a classroom section, a skills section, and finally a touring section, the clinic allows you and your dog to build on the skills and techniques needed. Our instructors are CANSI trained and avid ski-jor enthusiasts themselves and look forward to sharing their knowledge with you. The 2-day package includes 2 full days of training, all ski-jor equipment, and all food and beverage including breakfasts, snacks, lunches, and a final wrap-up reception at the Junction House Cafe in Dead Man's Flats. If you don't have a dog or not sure of how your dog will do in a group situation, you can still take this course. Mad Dogs & Englishmen have several great ski-jor dogs you can use to learn the skills to then utilise with your own dog. Clinics are scheduled once a month during the winter season or can be organized privately for a group of 6. Pricing for the weekend is $350.00 + GST. Our Cansi trained guides are available for cross-country ski instruction. A great way to learn a new sport or sharpen your skills before heading out on a trip. Join one of Mad Dogs and Englishmen's 2-day comprehensive Ski-Jor Clinics and learn the fundamentals of the sport. The clinic is designed to give you and your K-9 best friend a foundation of skills and knowledge to comfortably get out on the trails together and start enjoying all the benefits that this sport has to offer. 
If you are an intermediate cross-country skier and don't have the time to take the 2-day course or if you just want a bit more direction with your dog(s) specifically, then a private lesson may work for you. Private lessons, offer one on one instruction for both you and your dog(s) and can be set up at any time. 
If you are an intermediate skier and have had previous ski jor experience with your dog but are not comfortable going out on the trails in Kananaskis alone or you are visiting the area and don't have your best friend with you, then we would love to take you out on a guided tour. We have access to a number of cross-country ski trails off the Smith-Dorien Highway.
