Dogsledding: 2 Days / 1 Night

This is an intermediate tour and requires some physical ability.

The day begins with a light breakfast, then campfire at our kennel location by Gap Lake. Here, the guides will take you through an introduction to dog sledding, the history of dog sledding in the Bow Valley area and dog sledding as a sport itself. You will then have an opportunity to meet the dogs, view the kennel area, and assist the guides with the loading of the dogs for the drive up to the trail head.

Once up at the Spray Valley, you will be encouraged to assist with harnessing the dogs and setting up the teams. Then it’s out on the trail! You will enjoy an exhilarating dog sled ride with breathtaking views of the Spray Valley. This trail takes you out over the frozen lake then up into the trees to navigate an exciting trail to Mt Nester Viewpoint. Here you will enjoy a campfire lunch and have a chance to warm up by the fire. After lunch you will continue dog sledding for another couple hours down the lake to our winter campsite where you will then have a chance to relax by the fire while your guides create a wonderful evening meal. You will enjoy stories of early explorers while building smore’s and enjoying hot chocolate before crawling into your cozy 4-season tent. In the morning your guide will prepare you a campfire breakfast then it is back out on the trail for another 5-6 hours of dog sledding as you explore the lake further South, past Buller Creek & Smutz Creek, following the South shore to our day camp below Isolation Ridge. Here you will enjoy a campfire lunch and have a chance to warm up by the fire, enjoying the views SW down Bryant Creek and W to the flanks of Fortune Mountain. Once back on the trail, you will loop around the Frozen Islands, going up and down frozen ice rifts, to connect to the trail back to Driftwood.

When out on the trail, you will be given the opportunity to drive your sled with the assistance of your qualified guide or you can just sit back in the sled and enjoy the wonderful Canadian winter scenery. Photo stops are encouraged as well as trail snacks and beverages offered.

All dog sled and camping equipment is provided except for personal clothing & toiletries. Personal gear lists will be provided.

This is an intermediate tour and requires a reasonable level of physical fitness and stamina.
